Crowns

What is a crown?

A crown is a ‘cap’ placed over a tooth to restore normal shape, size, or function. The purpose of the crown is to make the tooth stronger or improve esthetics. Crowns can be made from many different types of materials depending on the location of the tooth, function, and patient preference. Our office utilizes the most biocompatible and tooth-like materials available to fabricate crowns.

Why do I need a crown?

  • To fix a cavity that is too large for a filling
  • To strengthen a broken, fractured, or worn-down tooth
  • To protect a tooth that has a root canal
  • To improve the esthetics of a tooth
  • To replace an old crown

How many appointments will I need?
Crowns take about two appointments to complete. At the first appointment, your tooth is prepared to receive a crown and an impression of your mouth is sent to a dental lab.  The dental lab takes about two weeks to fabricate your new crown. In the meantime, you will be wearing a temporary crown. The second appointment is much quicker. We remove your temporary crown and cement your permanent crown.
