What is a ‘pediatric’ dentist?
Dr. Erica completed two additional years of training after four years of dental school to learn the specific dental needs of infants, children, and adolescents. She also received training in caring for children with special healthcare needs.
When should you schedule your child’s first dental visit?
When the first tooth erupts or before your child’s first birthday. These early appointments are important in establishing a dental home for your child where they feel comfortable. It also allows us to work with parents to establish healthy habits and catch any issues early on.
What services are provided?
Dr. Erica focuses on education and preventative services including infant and child exams, cleanings, digital x-rays, fluoride treatments, and sealants. If your child does need treatment, she offers tooth-colored fillings, pediatric crowns, pediatric root canals, and extractions. For treatment, she also offers nitrous oxide or “laughing gas” to help make the experience as easy as possible for your child.
Dr. Erica and her staff are specifically trained to guide your child through their dental visits. We are committed to giving your child the best experience possible through techniques and language they can understand. Please support us in our efforts by speaking positively about the dentist. Please do not tell your child that the dentist will not hurt, as this may have never entered their mind. Rather, emphasize that the dentist will be gentle and friendly. Avoid using words like needle, drill, shot, pull, poke, hurt or any other word suggesting unpleasantness. Expect your child to do well and enjoy your visits to our office and chances are, they will too!
Dr. Erica also provides dental care under general anesthesia at the hospital for children that have extensive dental needs and/or cannot tolerate treatment in a traditional setting.
Insurances Accepted:
We accept private pay patients and patients with dental insurance. Dr. Erica is contracted with Hawaii Dental Service (HDS) and Delta Dental. Dr. Erica is not a QUEST provider at this location. For all other insurances, the office can help you submit a claim to take advantage of your benefits and receive the maximum reimbursement.
